Hello, my name is Raine.

Creating and making is at my core. That, combined with a restless spirit and a curious nature inspires me to discover possibility, freedom and beauty around me. Join me as I share my journey!

2 tea towels at a time…

You know how sometimes you just get an epiphany? A light goes on… it’s a knowing that things are just as they should be. Often it’s in the smaller details. That is where I usually notice my connection to all things, the flow of life and it’s perfection, regardless of our desperate attempts and compulsion to control the outcome.

Its funny because that is what I offer as an art teacher. ‘Get out of your own way. Allow life to surprise you. Trust and don’t let those criticisms and judgements inhibit and sabotage your joy of connection to creativity’. Letting go of that self talk that can restrict our access to possibilities.

So, 2 tea towels at a time, is one of those beautiful, simple moments where I just felt in flow. Let me explain…

Spying 2 cute retro printed tea towels in a ‘mom and pop’ store( some of my favourites for discoveries) I bought them on spec, musing and with a vague idea, that I would remake into little funky curtains either for our century old salt box house or, if better suited, our vintage trailer.

I loved the feel of the cotton and the fact that they were an ‘odd pair’ but still offered some co-existence.

The magic presented itself when on arriving home, I held the tea towels up to the little window…they harmonized with everything in the kitchen, and topped it all off like the proverbial cherry on the cake!

This became the final piece to pull together a project begun two summers prior, and with much ‘too-ing and fro-ing’ … as if each decision made earlier lead to this. I remember at the time of the renovating just wanting it done! Even in the minutae, it is evident that there is a time and place when it will all show itself to be ‘just as it is;

So a series of segways, reroutes, double turns and circling back… and in allowing this process of flow, it eventually just ‘sits’ where it should, and it is very simple. Do not push the river.

At a time when, more than ever, nothing is certain, and none of us can plan or predict a future outcome, we can relax in the knowing that it is all in the divine plan and allow serendipity to lead the way.

Sometimes things take time to gestate, to come into form, and we cannot know nor can we rush, the process.

In an effort to catapult to the finish line, we close off all other possibilities.

I like to sit in that place… of potent possibility, wonder and allowing… I had just forgotten …until those 2 tea towels jolted me back into my ‘heartspace’ and the joys of synchronicity.

Blessings
