I love container gardening! It’s so forgiving, immediate and joyful and encourages spontaneity and satisfies a restless spirit like mine.

Gardening for me, is a therapy, a new canvas to play and experiment with as I create little vignettes, moving around my containers, adding treasured up-cycled items and lonely old chairs with a lick of paint to breathe new life!

I would say my garden is whimsical…I follow no rules, though I do admit to a penchant for British gardener ‘Monty Don’ with his great knowledge and passion … he just inspires me to do what feels good.

This Summer my over enthusiasm in the garden led to an over abundance of starter plants and a lack of plant pots.

Never fear! What I did have was an assortment of empty gallon paint cans…cleaning them out and drilling holes in the bottom for drainage, I filled them with a soil mix and added one of each plant. Voila!

I much prefer the eclectic version of anything anyway so I was very happy with the results. Adding rescued old window frames to fences… painting simple, fun signage on gnarled garden posts, dangling jingly suncatchers, and creating small ‘garden rooms’ adds an element of fun as well as a visual ‘stopover’ for that well earned cup of tea!

September arrived and Fall brings with it cooler days so I am taking more tea breaks and embracing the palette I have created this year in the garden…I’m even keeping a garden journal… recording my hits and misses and am happy for it all. This summer has been a sweet one as I placed my focus on my art and my garden and it gave me so much in return.
